Michael’s most ambitious piece to date. This piece features his favourite stretch of the River Thames, from Chiswick to Woolwich. Its beautiful shape and curves are perfect for his art.
The iconic shape of the river is laser-cut into a thin sheet of pewter, battered to give it that vintage money box feel, and fitted with acrylic. The acrylic is filled with a low viscosity silicone fluid (a watery substance that doesn’t stagnate). The ‘water’ is lit by a stream of L.E.D lights and flows from left to right thanks to motors inside the pewter box. Tiny specs of mica powder catch the lights and make it easier to see the water moving.
And if you look closely you might just see a whale and a shopping trolley float by…
Michael has always been captivated by London: the views, the mix of old and new, the exquisite details of the historic buildings, and the abstract shapes of today’s superstructures. Much of Michael’s art is created from photographs taken while hanging out of a helicopter - the most exhilarating way to appreciate the beautiful patterns of London’s ever-changing landscape.
